I am finding that Asian culture has some similarities to Caribbean culture, we also call people aunt or uncle who are not necessarily related and older than us like a generation above as a sign of respect. I also noticed that in southern African American culture, they will say, "Mister" or "Miss" or "Misses" before the first or last name of the elder they are addressing. This is fascinating.
